“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character — that is the goal of true education.”Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a the middle child of a family deeply rooted in it's religious faith which was Baptist. Born in 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia, following in his father's footsteps, fighting against racial injusticies. His father and mother taught all of their children the value of character and the education that every person is entitled to.

The meaning of this quote I feel is that education is suppose to bring out the detective in you in a sense, to always question the norm and try to find the answer to it. To understand for yourself what is right and wrong and to make a judgment on whether it is actually right or wrong. Looking back at the time period in history the education system taught millions that racism is right, that it is fine to trat someone different because of the color of their skin. Not only was it Martin Luther King, Jr. but the entire civil rights  movement made the shift in Americans minds about racial equality through education, demonstrations, and protest. This which in turn paved the way for the later right's movements to come.
